Red Boat Outsourcing was founded by Darren & Oona Chinen. Darren's background includes a mix of more than 15 years in IT, Operations, and Sales. In these roles he has worked with numerous outsourcing vendors. Some projects were a mild success, but many were utter failures costing the company enormous amounts of money, time, and resources. Oona is a native from Cebu, Philippines. She was an outsource consultant for an on online webzine called bankruptcy.com. She was also a software project manager for an outsourced software development group specializing in making Palm applications. Between Darren and Oona they have a 360 degree view of the outsourcing world - what works, and what does not.
Why are so many outsourcing projects failing?
A job is a job Not true. Workers that are remote are far less productive in an environment where they are asked to be creative. Creativity comes from inspiration, company spirit, and deep knowledge of the company's product/service and market landscape. All of which are unavailable to the outsourced consultant.
Deadlines and the culture Project based outsourcing is riddled with problems. The first is the cultural barrier that must be overcome. A hidden asset in the US is the mentality that "I'll do whatever it takes to get the job done." Workers in outsourced countries do not think this way. They punch in, punch out and then go home and spend time with family.
Saving face Numerous projects have failed because outsourced consultants are unwilling to talk through problems or admit that the project is behind schedule. This cultural thought process leads them to think that it is better to fix problems on their own "before the boss finds out."
Red Boat Outsourcing overcomes these challenges by encouraging US companies to in-source (keep local) creative projects and outsource simple solved problems within the organization. Please visit our Solutions page to see how Red Boat Outsourcing can help.
